The goal of the project is to create a vibrant downtown that will put Concord back on the map as a destination with residents and tourists alike. Visitors will meander through downtown, from store to store, along the widened pedestrian friendly sidewalks.  Sidewalk cafés and numerous additional seating areas provide users with many places to rest and dine, while watching people stroll by.  Color and texture is added with the addition of street trees and ground-level planting that also provide natural shelter from the elements.

The carefully placed public art pieces and seasonal light pole banners also add to the dynamics of Main Street. Features of the pedestrian friendly streetscape include accessible  sidewalks, designated places for gathering and special events, locations for public art, historical features and elements, improved way finding, interesting site amenities, and colorful planting.  All of these elements will help to drastically improve the pedestrian experience along Main Street. With the addition of new LED lighting, Main Street will become an attractive and safe place to be after dark.

Specialty paving referencing historical elements will enhance the State House Plaza and give the area a more stately appearance, while still providing ample open space for large public gathering.
